Feelings on a quote.

In Brians chapter on page 142 Brian says "the safety of the rescuer is of a higher priority than the safety of the victim." This quote is an complete opposite way of thinking than what has been potrayed thus far in the book. Is it possible that Brian really feels this way about his home situation with Kate being the victim and Anna being the rescuer?
